Biography
American soprano Catherine Moss has been heralded for her pretty timbre and comedic timing. Her recent operatic stage appearances include Rosalba (Florencia en el Amazonas), Miss Wordsworth (Albert Herring), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Norina (Don Pasquale), and Older Sister/Parent A in the world premier of Justine F. Chen's opera Twa: a Murder Ballad. Catherine has also appeared in operetta and musical theater as Josephine (H.M.S. Pinafore), Carlotta (Phantom of the Opera), and as Polly (Apple Blossoms). Catherine has appeared in named and leading roles with Opera NEO, Taos Opera Institute, Shakespeare Opera Theater, Comic Opera Guild, Fifth Wall Performing Arts, University of Michigan Gilbert and Sullivan Society, University of Michigan Opera Theater, and with the Maryland Opera Studio.

Along with her staged performances, Catherine is a champion of vocal chamber repertoire, premiering contemporary and rediscovered Baroque era works such as Tanner Porter's Folklore (2019) and the American premier of Domenico Scarlatti's incomplete cantata Quando o Bella Clori. Catherine's other Early Music chamber credits include concert performances of Handel's Armida Abbandonata, Alessandro Scarlatti's Io son pur solo, Bach's Coffee Cantata, Buxtehude's Singet dem Herrn, and excepts from Cesti's L'Argia. As a guest of Harmonious Blacksmith, Catherine appeared in the Taylor Johnston Early Music Series.Further credits include works such as Arnold Cooke's Nocturnes, Viardot-Garcia's Le Roussignolet, Weill's Frauentanz, and Derr's I never saw another butterfly.

As a oratorio soloist, Catherine has appeared in Faure's Requiem, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Handel's Dixit Dominus, Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, Purcell's Come Ye Sons of Art, Bach's BWV 127, 116, and 211, and in excerpts of Mozart's Mass in C minor. She has also appeared in concert with the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra as the soprano soloist/Katerina Cavalieri in their 2022 production of Amadeus. In her free time, Catherine can be found rock climbing, participating in stage combat workshops, and working on her Commedia dell'arte physicality (i.e. clownin' around).
